Who we are

The Douai Society is a membership organisation for former pupils of Douai School, which closed in 1999. There are approximately 270 members, plus a further 230 supporters, all aged over 35. The Society is principally a social club, holding several events a year, in either London or at Douai Abbey in Berkshire. It is governed by the Society’s Council, who are all volunteers. The Douai Foundation is an associated charity, which exists to support Benedictine education at home and abroad, primarily through funding projects at Benedictine schools and colleges.

Around 80% of the work will be for the Society and 20% for the Foundation.

Main duties

* Maintain an up-to-date list of Life, Ordinary and Honorary Members

* Regularly check and reply to emails

* Proactively update the website with details of forthcoming events and photos

* Send out mailings to supporters (as and when instructed by the Honorary Secretary)

* Actively promote events, monitor bookings, and assist with processing of payments

* General administration on behalf of the Trustees of the Foundation

Knowledge and experience

You must be an efficient, courteous and confident administrator with excellent communication skills. You should also have some basic experience of creating or managing websites, and ideally of event planning. Some experience of independent schools or Roman Catholic education would be desirable. 

Details of Appointment

This is a part-time fixed-term position starting as soon as possible after the video conference interview (planned for August). A flexible working arrangement is anticipated.  This will be based on an average of 2.5 days per month. The post is home based, but the successful candidate will be expected to travel from time to time (at least once a year) to meet with members of the Society’s Council in London or the South East of England.

The initial contract will be for a fixed term of 12 months with the potential to renew annually.
